Artist Visits in Kontiolahti schools

During this spring I had the honour to visit all the schools in Kontiolahti! The Cultural Services ordered me a tour of Artist Visits for all of the second graders of Kontiolahti municipality as a part of their Cultural Path.

During the visits I told the students about being a visual artist, about my studies and why I became an artist. We would look at the pictures that I have made when I was their age, and we would look at my home page and the work that I do today.

At the end of the visit the students got to modify my postcard with a lonely crow, as they were assigned to cheer up it’s day. And how super cool did they made the cards! In the pictures, for you to admire, there are some cards made by the students from Kulho and Kontioniemi school.

Such a nice tour and lovely students! And what did they ask me?

“How long did it take to make that?”

“How do you have enough patience to make those?”

“Doesn’t your wrist get sore?”

Thank you for all the students and the teachers!

Thank you Kontiolahti Cultural Services for making the tour possible

The program includes tastings of honey-infused drinks and Mylly’s bread, as well as art in the mill’s setting. Miia will also lead a small workshop, where you’ll have the chance to pick up a brush and interpret what you see and experience.

I'll be working in the HEART project!

I'm exited to be invited to be part of HEART project to work with cultural heritage and art education.

HEART (Heritage Art) - Safeguarding intangible cultural heritage through transformative learning within community-based art, is a European cooperation partnership co-funded by the EU Erasmus+ Programme.

Five project partners from across Europe will develop and test a fresh model for teaching intangible cultural heritage (ICH), with the aim of producing new tools for adult educators working with cultural heritage. I'm working as an art educator for the UEF team.

Pop-Up Clay Picnics are here!

The first Pop-Up Clay Picnic will take place at Niskan tupa, Eno! The picnic will be part of Kekri celebration at the Eno market square at 23.9.2023. Come with us!

Pop-up Clay Picnic is a community art workshop where people work together to create an installation. There will be a table set for ten and the participants will make the food and portions on the plate with clay. The tablecloth, tableware and ready portions will make a communal, spatial installation. The installation will be left to experience by the audience and after that the ephemeral artwork will be taken down. The workshop and the arworks will be documented by photos to be shared afterwards. The process will discuss the issues of our local and global cuisine and the meanings of gathering together to eat.

The workshops will be guided by visual artist Miia Rosenius. The workshop is a Kulttuuritupsahdus by the Dream Year of Culture in Joensuu. More info and the instructions to prior booking:
